Orban OPTIMOD Trio V.2

Orban Trio

Orban has announced the V.2 release for the OPTIMOD Trio audio processor. The software is available as a free download at the company's website and comes pre-installed on new units. The OPTIMOD Trio is a versatile, high-performance DSP audio processor for FM, AM, and digital media, all in a single unit. It includes analog connections, dual AES3 interfaces, analog composite and digital MPX signals, and AoIP for Dante or Ravenna. Switching processing modes takes only a few seconds, making the Trio a flexible backup device.

The V.2 release offers improvements in sound quality, operational functions and performance features. Key updates include two new processing structures, expanded standalone functionality as an FM stereo encoder, and the new "Digital Media" (DM) mode which delivers optimal audio quality for digital radio, digital television, and Netcast audio processing.

The standalone FM stereo encoder is a new, additional processing structure integrated into the FM signal path, enabling seamless cross-fading between modes. This simplifies switching between pre-processed network feeds (which require only overshoot limiting) and local programming (which requires full audio processing). Additionally, the OPTIMOD Trio FM now supports APTmpX encoding. This enables the transmission of high-quality, complex composite/MPX signals over high- or low-bandwidth IP connections, such as the Internet or DSL.

“The key advantages of APTmpX over other MPX compression methods on the market lie in the absolute transparency of the codec and the preservation of the perfect audio quality and precise peak level control provided by the Orban DSP stereo encoder from which the digital MPX signal is derived,” said Mike Pappas, Senior Vice President, Global Sales at Orban.

The new DM mode brings OPTIMOD processing structures (5-band or 2-band) and integrated loudness control, ensuring optimal audio quality for digital radio, digital television, and internet broadcast applications. The OPTIMOD Trio DM mode can also be deployed in SMPTE-2110 environments for DTV applications in stereo or dual-mono mode (for bilingual broadcasts) by splitting the media into independent "essence streams."

The OPTIMOD Trio’s flexible design allows the addition of optional features such as ratings watermarking (IPSOS, Nielsen, or Kantar), streaming monitoring, an internal backup audio player, backup audio via IP stream, and APTmpX or µMPX.
