Sound Devices Releases iPad SD-Remote Companion App for 8-Series Mixer-Recorders

8series

Sound Devices released their new iPad-compatible SD-Remote companion app for the 8-Series Portable Mixer-Recorders. SD-Remote allows sound mixers to remotely control their mixer-recorder from a tablet. Previously, SD-Remote was only available for Android tablets.

SD-Remote for iPad was released concurrently with firmware version 3.21 for the 8-Series Portable Mixer-Recorders, consisting of the Scorpio, 888, and 833. In addition to supporting SD-Remote for iPad, Version 3.21 includes improved Bluetooth LE connectivity for Android SD-Remote. Android SD-Remote has also received a software update.

With SD-Remote, sound mixers can quickly access transport controls, edit metadata, write Take Notes, monitor outputs, and arm/disarm/mute/solo channels. Large-scale meters are available for all channels, and the current timecode is displayed on every screen, allowing for easy monitoring. Remote control via Bluetooth LE allows a mixer to control their Scorpio, 888, and 833 from afar.

This release comes after 8-Series Firmware Version 3.20, in which SD-Remote for Android received the ability to connect over Bluetooth LE. Previously, sound mixers needed a hardwired USB connection to use SD-Remote for Android.

SD-Remote may be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Appleā€™s App Store. 8-Series users may upgrade to v3.21 by visiting the Sound Devices Downloads Page.
